Trail Run

Ah, yes, a run in the woods. What could be more invigorating then a distance run through a wooded forest?

If you are a distance runner training for a race, you will of course put in some long runs during the week. And if you are kind to your body, you'll be sure to take your feet off of the solid concrete and head for the trails.

Here's some tips to consider when trail running:

  • Be familar with the trail. This should be obvious. There's no sense in going off on a trail run and getting lost.
  • Bring appropriate clothing. Now I don't know about you, but when I think of trail running, I think of heading off to the hills - preferably somewhere into the mountains. If I'm running in the hills, then I plan on any type of weather, rain, sun, snow, everything. Also, bring any gear you might need - first aid kit, water bottle, phone.
  • Let someone know where you are going and when you will be back. At the very least, if you drive out somewhere for a trail run (which seems ironic), leave a note in your window saying when you can expected to be back. You know someone is going to look in your window, its human nature a peek in on your neighbor.

These simple tips will make your trail run an enjoyable experience no matter what you encounter.
