Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot

Salomon's Malamute snowboard boot is the top dog in their Authentic boot line. This puppy is made for aggressive riders who ride with explosive speed and power. The new Power Frame construction allows for the immediate and direct transmission of power to your board. A stiff flex provides long lasting power and high tech materials protect against breakdown and pack out. Salomon has also added a Sensiflex sole, which precisely transmits board feel. The icing on the Malamute cake is that it comes with Ortholite conformable footbeds that do wonderful things for the bottoms of your feet.

2nd time even better than the first
I bought my first Malamutes in 2000, primarily because I read that a couple of mushers wore these boots in the Iditarod - hey, they must be warm and comfortable and able to take a licking. Well, my first pair was great, but I ride a lot and finally the edges were beginning to wear on all the trim and my lace-loops looked ready to break. So, I bought a new pair. They are way better - easier (after a few tries) on and off, warmer and more solid. The "torque" strap works, the lacing is simple and effective and I get a really great feel on my board.

Heel lift finally cured!!!
I've been plagued with heel lift until now. This boot does not have many of the desirable features you look for in a snowboard boot...breathability, easy lacing, easy on and off. However, I finally found a boot that is comfortable AND keeps my heel locked in place. The key to the success with this boot seems to be in two parts; 1) the shell is super stiff 2) there is a strap inside anchored at two points in the shell that crosses your ankle and VELCRO’s® to the liner. The strap is perfectly placed to hold the heel down to the boot. Genius! Life is full of trade-offs. I can live with my feet getting a little extra sweaty, annoying lacing, and struggling to get the boots on and off as long as I am in control when I am riding!!! I've worked with several people claiming to be "master bootfitters" trying to solve my heel lift problems in other boots with very little success. In some cases they only made it worse for me. I'm sure they meant well. The Malamute boots hold my feet like glue right out of the box with no modifications. If you have struggled with heel lift, try these boots! Get ready for a fight the first time you put them on...they are stiff!

Malamute boots provide perfect fit
I've been riding for 3 seasons now, and previously have had numerous difficulties with foot cramps ruining my day. It got to the point where I wasn't even excited about riding anymore. I decided to go with a stiffer boot, and the Malamute sure delivered. I can now ride all day, with little to no foot pain, and I really can tell a difference when I ride consecutive days. If anyone has flat feet, and has had problems with their foot cramping up when they board, I highly recommend this boot.

SOLID aggressive boot
I thought I wouldn't like such a stiff boot, but it helps with my riding a whole lot. Turning is easier; less effort, more control, more support. The only downside is that a little part of the tongue was rolled in and hurt my foot under my ankle binding. Just a little thing that I took care of, although it likes to roll in from time to time while I’m riding and I have to take off my boot and adjust it. It’s not convenient at all. That just how the liner is though, and should not be a problem once it's formed better. If you're skeptical about getting a super stiff boot because you like to jib and sh... then don't be. You be happy with your purchase of this boot, if you are actually an aggressive rider and can handle anything that gets thrown at you. These boots help a whole lot, especially if your previous boots were like sneakers. It took about 3 days to get completely used to the stiffness.

Training Tips

Did you know that to lose approximately one pound of fat, an average adult would have to walk 30 miles? You don't have to walk those 30 miles all at once.

If you consume 100 calories a day more than you need, you will gain about 10 pounds in a year.  A reasonable combination of diet and exercise can help control your weight.  The key is to balance your caloric intake with the amount of exercise.

You can increase your maximum oxygen consumption by approximately 15% when you work out three times a week for at least 30 minutes at 70% of your maximum heart rate.

Low weight, high rep circuit training combines the best of both worlds: aerobic and anaerobic training.  Keeping the rest time in between high repeats low excercises like bench press, leg presses, inclined sit-ups, and upright rows is the key to maximum benefits.
