Giro Nine.9 MX Audio Helmet

The Giro Nine.9 MX Audio helmet is rooted in freestyle but equipped with a visor for ripping backcountry and ready to accept your iPod or MP3. It's all about the freedom of choice, so the visor and earpads are removable. In-mold construction fuses the outer shell and impact-absorbing liner, so it's not only tough but also super light. 12 mammoth vents grab cool, fresh air when you're riding or hiking for glory, and the waterproof Weatherstrip vent pugs stop snow and wind chill. This helmet comes complete with Giro's standard TuneUps technology plus LINK technology. LINK allows you to plug in to your music and your cell phone at the same time, so you can stay in touch without fumbling. The built-in microphone lets you speak hands-free, and multiple phone jacks fit most any cell. *Black only, iPod and cell not included. -Vendor

Giro Audio Helmet
Love this helmet, you can use your voice to make phone calls, and turn down the music, but still have it in the background. AWESOME

Way better than I hoped for
I was a bit nervous buying this untested. However, I just finished my fist day riding with this helmet and am really happy. The basic part of the helmet is pretty good. The audio part is amazing. It sounds soo much better than an ear bud, and is much more convenient. The sound quality is really great, I was hearing parts of songs I hadn't realized were there. The control is just one button that mutes the music, and works as expected. The coiled cord is much better than a normal headphone cord. It also helps that there is only one, where an earbud splits into two. I highly recommend this if you want to listen to music on the slopes. (And is really only more than the basic helmet, a great deal.)

Fantastic Helmet!
My wife, our best friend and myself all purchased the Nine.9 audio helmet (either MX or plain) this Christmas. We had an excellent opportunity to test the product for 9 days in Winter Park, Colorado. The sound quality was great and the helmets were super comfortable, in sun, snow (2.5 feet of fresh powder) and cold. Lightweight, warm and comfy, the helmet provides great protection (my wife avoided a nasty headache after a fall) along with tunes.

TUNE UPS2-BUYER BEWARE
Here is my take. I bought the GIRO 9MX with TUNE UPS 2 thinking that I would be able to use the supplied Y cord with a walkie talkie. This ability was adverstised on GIRO website(now corrected). Who uses a cell phone skiing/boarding, especially when it comes to backcountry action where cell towers don't exist?. Anyways, I was not able to get my walkie talkie to work, so I called Skull Candy engineering who stated that the Y cord was never intended for a walkie talkie and would not work. Furthermore they advised GIRO of this. I complained to GIRO and since then, GIRO has cleaned up their misprint on their website. Check out the OVO helmet audio series website. Better product.

Giro Nine MX Audio Helmet
This helmet is the great. Highly recommend purchasing this. The helmet is lightweight and doesn't cause you head to itch after prolonged wear. I skied all day and night with it on. The sound from my IPod was perfect. It had the right amount of base so I could really jam down the slopes. The only draw back, if there is one, was with the visor. When the visor is on, you can't push your goggles up on the brim of the hat when you are not wearing them. You have to pull them down around your neck or let them hand down in the back of the helmet.

Training Tips

If you want to make progess in your training, join a running group.  A commitment to meet on a regular basis with a group of like minded individuals will help you keep your focus.

An efficient long distance running stride will have you landing on your heal first and rolling to the front of your toes.

One of the most mentally toughening things you can do as a runner who trains daily is to add a morning run into your routine.  This means you are doing two runs a day.  The morning run is simply more of a mental challenge then anything else.

Have two pairs of running shoes, especially if you live in a wet climate.  Consider replacing your shoes no later than 500 miles into the life of the shoes.
