Running Gear

Get ready to run! If you are just about to step outside for a run, what you are wearing can make all the difference. And a lot of it has to do with the weather.

In the old days, at least the old days for me, you would slap on a pair of shorts, a t-shirt, a short pair of socks, and running shoes and hit the road. But times have changed and so has the gear.

For one thing, the materials used to make today's running clothes is much improved. No longer are you restricted to wearing only good old cotton clothing. Now there is high tech breathable, water repellent, reflective shorts, shoes, shirts, jackets.

If you are out for a run in the rain, besides the expected three "S"'s (shoes, shorts, and shirt), a lightweight breathable rainshell, pair of gloves, hat, and it the temperature is low, a pair of running pants will suit you well. Ideally, you want to be able to carry any clothing you decide to discard if the weather clears up.

For those hot, sunny days, a lightweight jersey and the all important cap with a beak will have you running in comfort. A recommended gear item is a small fanny pack that holds a water bottle. There is no reason to get dehydrated when you can easily carry a bottle along with you.

While running gear has clearly improved with the advances in technology, you can now easily adapt to the running environment.
