The North Face Bryce Low Hiking Shoe - Men's

The North Face Men's Bryce Low Hiking Shoe is a lightweight day hiker squarely focused on trail comfort and great ventilation. Suitable for fast and light backpacking with loads up to 30 pounds, the Bryce Low is perfect for long day hikes and even the quick overnighter. The North Face collaborated with Vibram (one of the most respected sole manufacturers in the world) to create a unique tread pattern for the Bryce Low, resulting in a grippy, super durable outsole that's sure to stand the test of time. An Outlast footbed provides superior temperature control—it absorbs excess heat, then releases it back to you to prevent chilling. The rubberized leather toe cap and heel will fend off wayward sticks and stones, and TPU shank plate guards against sharp impacts under the foot.

a beautiful thing
I wore these low hikers in Devil's Canyon practically straight out of the box. Sixteen miles later, my feet were in better shape than the rest of me. I have flat feet and these seemed to provide support where I needed to carry 50 pounds on all types of terrain. I would certainly purchase a pair of these again for a light hiker or street shoe.

Big tongue
Not a bad shoe, however, the tongue of the shoe is too prominent. Tone it down in future models.

Bryce Too Low
While the Bryce seemed like a good Men's shoe, I found it was too low (around the ankle) for my tastes -- and so I returned them and ordered a pair of North Face Fury Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Shoe (Mid-Height).

Great shoes...great experience
They are wonderful day hiking shoes. I have only ran a little bit in them and they performed fine, but not as well as shoes solely designed for this purpose obviously. They stay dry even in damp conditions and are extremely supportive. I can carry fairly heavy loads and not have any problems. Especially for the price, this is possibly the best deal I have come across.

Bryce Low Hiking Shoe
Great comfortable shoes! I tested them with below 0C, and I wasn't cold. For me, good 3-season solution, with resistant Vibram sole.

Training Tips

One of the most mentally toughening things you can do as a runner who trains daily is to add a morning run into your routine.  This means you are doing two runs a day.  The morning run is simply more of a mental challenge then anything else.

Have two pairs of running shoes, especially if you live in a wet climate.  Consider replacing your shoes no later than 500 miles into the life of the shoes.

Proper hydration for a run includes drinking 30 - 45 minutes before you start and about a cup every 10 - 15 minutes while running.

One of the best ways to win a running race is to win it in your mind first.  Visualize yourself running and winning that important race.  The more often you do this, you will start to "feel" the race.  Your heart will get pumping and your body will feel the effort required to get the job done.
