Patagonia Capilene Midweight Hiking Crew Socks
Capilene Midweight Hiking socks are perfect for alpine climbing and trekking in cool to cold conditions. They're extremely versatile, providing warmth without ridiculous bulk and remaining extremely breathable so your feet don't overheat. Some of the finer details of these socks include a felted foot bed that adds cushion and insulation, and lasts the lifetime of the sock. Patagonia's innovative, rib-cuff design is non-restrictive and prevents socks from sloughing into boots. Flex zones in the toe box and ankle allow for a natural, non-bunching flex.

Thick warm socks . . . great!! These are the socks I've wanted for a long time, but never found. My husband has warm thick socks which tend to stretch and get out of shape. These are very warm, feel quite comfortable inside my leather walking shoes, feel great as 'slippers' for walking around the house -- and they have kept their shape so far. I plan to get more, so that I'll always have a pair handy. These are the socks I've been waiting for, for a long time.
midweight ???? sock Really nice, comfortable and well made sock but would suggest as a hiking sock that they are summerweight. Perfect for wearing with shoes in winter around town or with lightweight boots on gentle terrain but not heavy enough for me to wear with mountain boots in rough terrain. How thin are the lightweight socks?????

Training Tips
Heart monitors are useful for knowing when you are in the right zone for your training efforts. If you understand what your maximum heart rate is, you can set up your monitor to beep at you when you exceed the high or low range of your heart rate for the type of workout you are doing.
Cross training gives your body a chance to recover while still exercising. If yesterday has a hard run day up and down hills, then today's bicycle ride gives your aching knees a well deserved break.

Anaeroic threshold is when lactic acid starts to build up in your body as your muscles are not getting the oxygen they require. This threshold is typically expressed as a percentage of your VO2 max - the amount of oxygen per kilogram of weight that a person can use in converting fuel to energy. Elite athletes threshold might be as high as 90% of VO2 max.
Efficient running position allows you to run farther and faster. Keep the heel raise to a minimum, relax your upper body and hands, keep your upper body poised and quiet.
