Montrail Vitesse Trail Running Shoe - Mens

The Montrail Vitesse Trail Running Shoe is a hardcore shoe whose unique design has earned it a rabid following amongst adventure racers, ultra-marathoners, and runners who don't care much for pavement. The most immediately noticeable thing about the Vitesse is its form-fitting internal bootie. Simply put, the Vitesse feels like a sock when you slip it on, with maximum shoe to foot contact for comfort and control. It's a sock with teeth though. Luggy tread on a stiff sole protects your feet from rocks and debris, with an extra lug outside your instep to add extra protection against ankle roll. Mesh-vented uppers make for great breathability and work with the hydrophobic uppers to dry fast on the fly. No quarter asked and none given for weather or trail conditions with the Vitesse.

Best running shoe ever
The best part about these babies is the fit: They fit like a pair of socks. Tongue, sides, and top make an inner booty that keeps your foot in solidly and is just totally cush. The soles give great traction on everything, though are a little stiff for road usage. These move like an extension of your foot, which is really great for wilder trails. An extra lug acts like an outrigger on a canoe and keeps you from rolling your ankle.

So Good
These shoes were recommended by Costello a couple years back. I didn't believe him until I wore a pair up Guardman's Pass in the Wasatch Back Relay. The inner (liner?) is amazing at stablilizing the foot which is nice for this Clydesdale. Not recommended for street, but for everything else at mach speed.

Best Hiking Shoe I've Ever Had.
This shoe is great for hiking/trail running (I usually run down the trails). I've put 30k vertical feet on these shoes in three weeks. The inner liner makes all the difference for me. It helps cushion your feet against rocks, branches and other objects. Previous shoes have made the bottom of my feet burn and hurt - not these. If you have wide feet (like me), size up 1/2 size and you'll be good to go.

Good shoes
Best trail running shoe I've owned. Working great for me.

Umm Light and Stiff
The shoes are very very good. I have been a big fan of The North Face Ultra 100, which is a great shoe, but I have switched to the Montrail Vitesse and I am equally happy. The Montrail offers tons of support but is still very light. I also like the many lacing variations that are available.

Training Tips

Anaeroic threshold is when lactic acid starts to build up in your body as your muscles are not getting the oxygen they require.  This threshold is typically expressed as a percentage of your VO2 max - the amount of oxygen per kilogram of weight that a person can use in converting fuel to energy. Elite athletes threshold might be as high as 90% of VO2 max.

Efficient running position allows you to run farther and faster.  Keep the heel raise to a minimum, relax your upper body and hands, keep your upper body poised and quiet.

If you want to make progess in your training, join a running group.  A commitment to meet on a regular basis with a group of like minded individuals will help you keep your focus.

An efficient long distance running stride will have you landing on your heal first and rolling to the front of your toes.
