Montrail Torre GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's
The Montrail Torre GTX backpacking boot has raised the bar for lightweight boots built for extended outdoor adventures. The Waterproof Gore-tex construction keeps feet dry, durable all-leather uppers ensure a long life for the boot, and a nylon lasting board provides the support and stability you'll need for hardcore, multi-day trips with very heavy packs. But what makes the Torre GTX so special is the IntegraFit last that ensures the same custom fit for a huge array of foot widths and volumes.

Great Boots! I have to say these are the most comfortable boots I have very worn. I had previously worn a pair of Merrell Explorers that were 5 years old yet still gave me blisters and uncomfortable feet at the end of the day. My boots arrived on a Friday and it just happened to be I was leaving to go on a weekend trip that weekend. I figured I would wear these at least for the first mile to get them broken in then switch to my old boots which I had brought with me. To my surprise I wore these brand new, unbroken in boots the entire 3 day trip without any blisters. I did develop a couple of hot spots but nothing else. With my old boots I would have gotten blisters and had very uncomfortable feet. These boots were so comfortable I didn't even wear my sandals around camp. I would highly recommend these boots to anyone looking for a lightweight, waterproof, comfortable boot.
Satisfaction I am incredibly picky about shoes. I have tried on hundreds of boots, and rarely buy due to various reasons. The Torre GTX is one I did buy. It met certain requirements, a tight yet flexible fit, an immensely stable heel and strong toe box. It is a good fit across the top of the foot also. It did require 4-5 weeks of daily use to break in...a little longer than I wanted, but it is worth it. There was no blistering, just a tight fit down around the joints on the last couple of toes. I did have to double loop the knot to keep them from coming untied, but it is inconsequential to me. Have not taken them into heavy dew areas so I can't speak about how they fair in water; I don't have reservations about their performance there since all other areas have been pleasing.
Montrail Midweight Boot I took these boots up South Sister (OR) and Mt Adams (WA) and they performed wonderfully. I have narrow feet that are hard to fit. In almost 10,000 ft of descent I never hit my toes once. This is a great boot. Unless you need crampons a tougher boot is unecessary and less comfortable. P.S. they look much better dirty ;)
Its the best BOOT on the wall ... What can I say, I’m Donny Boots and I sell Boots at a highly respectable outdoor retail store. I own the Torre GTX, The fit is unbelievable, your heel sits in a saddle, and the structure in the foot bed is great. Montrail has outdone themselves in designing this boot. If you have a low to med volume foot with a narrow heel cup, go with the Reg fit boot (it's great.) If you have a high volume foot, go with the wide. It handles up to 3 to 4 E. In the past (older models) they ran to the small size but Montrail has seemed to correct that. It’s a great company that stands behind their product..
Out of the box and on the trail Normally I like to break new boots in on short hikes with my dog around our local nature trails. After trying the Montrail Torre GTX boots on I thought I might give them a try on our last big hike of the year and I was not dissapointed. With a 30 pound pack and 7 mile days in the Eagle Cap wilderness of eastern Oregon I had no hot spots, blisters, or anything but backpacking bliss. Granted Boots are a pretty subjective item to review, but consruction quality, traction, support and comfort are all first rate in these medium weight hikers. I am also very happy with backcountry.com's customer service and prompt shipping.

Training Tips
As a long distance runner, a gradual increase in distance each week will allow you to build a solid areobic base. Distance increase should be no more than 10% of the previous week's distance.
When buying a new pair of running shoes, bring your old ones with you. You will get a better fit if you know if you supinate or pronate.

Heart monitors are useful for knowing when you are in the right zone for your training efforts. If you understand what your maximum heart rate is, you can set up your monitor to beep at you when you exceed the high or low range of your heart rate for the type of workout you are doing.
Cross training gives your body a chance to recover while still exercising. If yesterday has a hard run day up and down hills, then today's bicycle ride gives your aching knees a well deserved break.
