Montrail Masai Trail Running Shoe - Men's
The Montrail Masai, worn by two-time Western States 100 victor Scott Jurek, is built for comfort over long distances in warm temperatures. Materials are chosen for breathability and light weight with a cushiony feel on rough Sierra trails, hard Bay-area roads or mixed terrain. Montrail updated their lightest, most breathable shoe to fit a variety of foot types so road runners enjoy it training on multiple surfaces and ultra runners use it to trail race. Constructed with plenty of mesh, it allows airflow during sustained activity in warm weather. The reinforced toe cap uses EVA and rubber for durability, and then screen prints it with polyurethane for abrasion resistance. Tongue is padded and stretches for a sock-like fit, and further protection from lace rubs comes from a seamless inner layer in the upper. The lacing eyelets, webbing bands and mid-foot support panels are housed independently on the outside to avoid chafing. Toe box is roomy for when feet swell during long runs but the shoe conforms to narrow feet effortlessly by cinching the flexible upper.

What Ever You Do Take Care Of Your Shoes Not with these puppies. Montrail made a nice indestructible shoe suited for the trail, the gym, or the mean streets of NYC. Great Buy.
Champion Trail Runner The most comfortable, best-performing trail running shoes ever! I felt like a champion in these shoes, flying up and down the trails with no worries at all. Nice cushioning and lightweight, so you can wear them on the roads too. Also very breathable for those hot summer days. I would recommend these for anyone who likes to hit the trails hard, but doesn't want to sacrifice speed or performance.
Montrail Masai Very comfortable seamless one piece mesh. Fast low to the ground feel. Nice toe protection for even the roughest terrain. Probably best for a light to medium weight runner.
Good and Bad The Masais are incredibly comfortable. Their performance is well matched on the trails as well. They drain well on those muddy wet trails too. However, I've found that the reinforced toe covering cracks and peels, and when it does so it has torn the fabric of the toe box. I like them so well, I've purchased several pairs, but the upper part is not fairing well in the durability department.
Montrail Masai Goes for Blood I've run ultra marathons for 21 years, and have run mostly in Montrails the past 7 years. I bought my first pair of the Masai about 3 weeks ago. They felt damn near perfect! At that time I was finally coming out of my longest period of not running well in, well, since I started way back. Is it the shoes? Not just. Have they helped? Absolutely. Great grip. They absorb jolts from rocks and roots, respond quickly to all changes in terrain, dry quickly, and feel cool. They even look cool, especially covered with dirt, mud, whatever. And I thought I liked the Vitesse and Leone Divide! (Well, I did. But these Masai, for me and my feet, blow all those others away). Did I mention they fit me great. Run Amok!!!!

Training Tips
After each interval, take your pulse rate by counting the number of beats at your wrist or neck for 15 seconds. Multiply that result by four to get your beats per minute. Your next interval should start before your heart rate is less than 60% of your maximum.
The four components of good fitness include flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and cardiorespiratory endurance. For optimum health, include at least two of these groups in three workouts per week.

Your fitness level will improve by overloading, working your body hard enough to stimulate the body, progression, increasing the frequency, intensity, and duration of exercise over time, and regularity, working out frequently, at least three times a week.
As your fitness improves over time by following a carefully planned fitness program, your ability to exercise closer to your maximum heart rate will improve.
