Comfortable and light My wife and I both own these boots and have found these remarkably comfortable without any break-in period. She is on her 2nd year while I am on my first. We day-hiked over 100 miles this fall at the Grand Tetons and her's did 110 miles last year in the Canadian Rockies. This fall we hiked through snow and rain and we both had dry feet. I don't know how long they will last but nevertheless, since they don't seem to require any break-in period, they may still be worth it even if they wear quicker than other more expensive boots.
Great pair of boots for the price After 30 years, my Raichle boots finally died. I wanted a well-made pair of boots for light hiking and walking my dog in our Upstate, NY winters. I am very pleased with the Lowa GTX Mid Hiking boot. It didn't take me more than a few days to get them broken in; and that was more or less just walking the dog while wearing them. They are built very well, seem rugged and durable, comfortable, and at least 1/2 the weight as my ancient Raichles. I don't think you could find a better pair of boots for the price. I am very happy with these Lowas.

Training Tips
Heart monitors are useful for knowing when you are in the right zone for your training efforts. If you understand what your maximum heart rate is, you can set up your monitor to beep at you when you exceed the high or low range of your heart rate for the type of workout you are doing.
Cross training gives your body a chance to recover while still exercising. If yesterday has a hard run day up and down hills, then today's bicycle ride gives your aching knees a well deserved break.

Anaeroic threshold is when lactic acid starts to build up in your body as your muscles are not getting the oxygen they require. This threshold is typically expressed as a percentage of your VO2 max - the amount of oxygen per kilogram of weight that a person can use in converting fuel to energy. Elite athletes threshold might be as high as 90% of VO2 max.
Efficient running position allows you to run farther and faster. Keep the heel raise to a minimum, relax your upper body and hands, keep your upper body poised and quiet.
