Chaco Z/1 Terreno Sandal - Mens
The Chaco Z/1 Terreno Sandal created a faithful following of outdoor enthusiasts and travelers because of its awesome design and practical versatility. The thick, 8mm Terreno outsole has deep lugs for traction on loose surfaces, and offers an extra degree of comfort and cushioning. Subsequently, they've become popular for light hiking and long days of pounding pavement. The aggressively contoured footbed of the Z/1 cradles your heel for rear foot control, while supporting your arch to prevent over-pronation. The Z/1 strap configuration features an open toe design for those who like unrestrained toes. Great-looking, and extremely comfortable, the Z/1 Terrenos may never leave your feet.

Chacos did the job After trying a pair of imitation tevas on the trail, I realized I liked the feeling of hiking in sandals but wanted a sturdier pair for walking on well groomed trails and all the above. I bought the z/1's just before a backpacking trip to Yosemite and broke in the footbed and straps for a week. For four days on the trail in Yosemite, from dirt trails to mud trails, boulder fields to ascending peaks, I wore my sandals full time except one afternoon when the freezing rain forced me to wear my boots. The terreno sole has excellent traction on rock, trusting it while descending steep rock faces with a heavy pack. The straps were comfortable, keeping my feet in place. Never rolled my ankle. These sandals will last me a long time.
Actually dang near perfect I was pleasantly surprised to be able to forget the WICKED ENORMOUS price. These are actually worth it. Very comfortable, sweet looking, awesome tan lines you get from them. The grip is very powerful. They get a lot less slimy than my tevas because they lack the 'anti-microbial' footbed thingee. Overall, they're way comfortable and Colin Fletcher was right-I "wear them 90% of the time there isn't snow on the ground."
Awesome sandals An airline lost one of my beloved Timberland sports sandals forcing me to shop for a replacement. Some friends had recommended Chacos, so I apprehensively decided to give them a try. I fell in love with them instantly. The soles are thicker and more rugged than I thought they would be and the arch support is great. The best part though is the strap system. It is one continuous strap with a great buckle allowing one pull to tighten to a perfect fit every time. Likewise, one pull allows you to loosen and kick them off easily. These things feel like they're a part of your foot and have great traction. I'm hooked.
You'll stick like a Gecko! I will be brief, I love these sandals. I was very leery about purchasing a pair of sandals which cost more than my hiking boots. But with a discounted price () and a free gift (Chaco belt) how could I go wrong? These are the Terrano Z-1 sandals which are a more lugged, hiking sandal, best for....just about anything. The straps are very comfortable and adjustments are as simple as cake. Only problem is that they do get a wee bit stinky, especially when you wear them 24/7. But that’s nothing a spritzer of tough actin’ Tinactin can’t solve. Overall I say, save your sandal money for a well made, long lasting sandal made right in Colorado!
Great construction-need break in I've had my chaco's for about 2 months after my Teva terri-fi's plastic ankle buckle busted on their first trip. No chance of that happening to the chacos- possibly the sturdiest sandal on the market. The sole is plenty grippy, but maybe slightly less so than Teva. The only issue is the break in. I've never had blisters from sandals like these ones, and it's not just the straps. They are getting better with age, but up not up for using them on longer walks yet. Otherwise comfort levels are great! (would be a 5 if the break in was less).

Training Tips
Heart monitors are useful for knowing when you are in the right zone for your training efforts. If you understand what your maximum heart rate is, you can set up your monitor to beep at you when you exceed the high or low range of your heart rate for the type of workout you are doing.
Cross training gives your body a chance to recover while still exercising. If yesterday has a hard run day up and down hills, then today's bicycle ride gives your aching knees a well deserved break.

Anaeroic threshold is when lactic acid starts to build up in your body as your muscles are not getting the oxygen they require. This threshold is typically expressed as a percentage of your VO2 max - the amount of oxygen per kilogram of weight that a person can use in converting fuel to energy. Elite athletes threshold might be as high as 90% of VO2 max.
Efficient running position allows you to run farther and faster. Keep the heel raise to a minimum, relax your upper body and hands, keep your upper body poised and quiet.
