Heart Rate Monitor Battery

Batteries for heart rate monitors typically last one to two years during normal operating conditions.

"Normal operating" conditions are a couple of hours a day, seven days a week.  If you go crazy and use your monitor at night, you'll need to use the backlight often - which means shorter battery life.  If your heart rate refuses to stay within the zone you have programmed for, you'll get a beep - again, shorter battery life.  And finally, if you live at the Antartic research center OR in the Sahara desert, the extreme temperaturs will wreak havoc on the battery life.

The first sign that you battery is losing it's charge is when you press the light button, the readings on the display go dimmer.  As can be expected, the manufacture typically recommends that you sent the unit back for factory installation of a new battery.

And that might not be such a bad idea as the seal is absolutely critical.  You want a water resistance seal maintained using qualified components, plus your monitor will probably get a full checkout.
