Salomon Carbon Pro Skate Boot - Men's

Nordic speed starts with your feet. The Salomon Carbon Pro Skate Boot is the boot of choice for world-class Nordic competitors. The most apparent thing about the Carbon Pro Skate is its incredible light weight. Salomon’s Sensifit system wraps your entire foot to make the boot feel like an extension of your foot that moves naturally. A rear foot beam adds rigidity in the heel, where you need it to control your edges. Under your foot, the Carbon energyzed plate stores energy as it flexes and releases it at the end of your kick for an extra power boost. The Carbon Pro Skate Boot uses Salomon’s unique Pilot skating system, which uses a two axis binding system to enhance ski backlash and move more naturally than a traditional, single pivot point.

Overall, these are a good boot. However, I think they are SERIOUSLY for those who have money burning a hole in their pockets. Salomon makes another boot (Pro Skate S9 I believe?) that is identical as far as comfort, stiffness, and performance goes, but where the Carbons win is in weight. The Carbons weigh about 1.5 - 2 pounds less between the two of them. That can make a difference if you're a hardcore athlete who is in races that are won by the milliseconds, but for so much less someone who doesn't compete, or isn't so well off could get the same boot and get a little bit more exercise skiing in them.

Carbon Pro Skate Ski Boot Review
Spending the extra cash on the Carbon Pro is money well spent. The responsiveness in power from the foot to the ski is unbelievable. I tried a friend's pair of Skate 9's prior to purchasing the Carbon Pro's and could tell the difference in the performance right away. I personally won't go back to a lower performance boot. The only problem I've heard about is to keep an eye on the zipper since it tends to split or fray. Most of the guys that I've talked to simply have it reinforced by a local shoe repairman. Training Tips

If you want to make progess in your training, join a running group.  A commitment to meet on a regular basis with a group of like minded individuals will help you keep your focus.

An efficient long distance running stride will have you landing on your heal first and rolling to the front of your toes.

One of the most mentally toughening things you can do as a runner who trains daily is to add a morning run into your routine.  This means you are doing two runs a day.  The morning run is simply more of a mental challenge then anything else.

Have two pairs of running shoes, especially if you live in a wet climate.  Consider replacing your shoes no later than 500 miles into the life of the shoes.
