Cleaning A Heart Rate MonitorIf you want the best results from your heart rate monitor, keep it clean. I'm not talking about dirty jokes, I mean keep the exterior of your transmitter and receiver clean. Here's how. Wash the transmitter regularly with a mild soap and water solution. Use a soft tool to dry. Under no circumstances use rubbing alcohol. Especially after a particularly "sweaty" workout. The moisture and sweat can keep the electrodes wet and the transmitter activated. And that can lead to a shorter battery life. No heavy duty abrasives like steel wool. Don't use cleaning chemicals. If you are particularly interested in keeping your monitor clean, use an old soft toothbrush. You weren't going to use that toothbrush for anything else, anyways. While this suggestion might not be for keeping your heart rate monitor clean, here it is anyways. Store your monitor where there is no direct sunlight or extreme hot or cold. This means don't stick it on the dashboard of your car during the sweltering summer months. Finally, when you need a new battery, send the unit back to the manufacture and have them check out the complete setup for anything that needs replacing. |
