The North Face Slim

The North Face Slim is a tight & light 70oz hydration pack perfect for fast-packing and speed ascents. Its main compartment offers just enough room for an extra layer and a few small goodies. Remove the hipbelt if you want to shave even more weight, or use it for a more secure fit. A breathable aeromesh backpanel and shoulder straps minimize sweat spots. Cinch down a wet shirt with the X bungee on the pack face so it dries and stays separate from other stuff.

Great mid-sized hydration
After taking this hydration pack bike touring in Colorado I was wondering why I didn't get one sooner. The 70 oz. hydration bladder is the perfect size for daylong bikes and hikes, and there is just enough storage for some snacks and the wallet. A Marmot Precip held firm to the pack on the outside with the built-in cord and loops. The Aqueduct bladder has a nice feature for cleaning--you can actually turn it inside out for easy drying. Water stayed nice and cold within the insulated hydration compartment. Added removable straps at the waist and sternum are nice to have. Fluid flows nicely and with good volume when you need it. The overall product boasts typical North Face quality, details, comfort, and good looks (not to mention TNF's lifetime guarantee on the pack and one year on the bladder). Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a Camelbak alternative in the 70 oz. range.

great lightweight water pack
I bought this pack for my wife and she absolutely loves it. Its perfect both for when she goes jogging in the heat and for our frequent day hikes. The area that stores the water pouch is also insulated so the water stays very cold and refreshing. The build quality is also top notch. I highly recommend this pack if you are looking for a small hydration pack.

north face slim hydration
I just got back from South America, which is why I bought the backpack. It was perfect. Just the right size for a day's supply of water and supplies without being bulky or cumbersome. I was debating between this pack and a larger one (Camelbak Cloudwalker)—I don't carry a lot of stuff (no change of clothes or anything. basically my money/passport, camera, snacks, tissue, gum, etc) so I'm really glad I went with the smaller size. If you need to carry more, I'd recommend a pack with a larger capacity. The hydration system meant never having to dig around for a bottle of water.

The North Face Slim
I had an opportunity to use this pack for the first time this past weekend. I am a small female and it felt great! It accommodates the necessities of a day hike. I look forward to carrying it on many more adventures.

Training Tips

As a long distance runner, a gradual increase in distance each week will allow you to build a solid areobic base.  Distance increase should be no more than 10% of the previous week's distance.

When buying a new pair of running shoes, bring your old ones with you.  You will get a better fit if you know if you supinate or pronate.

Heart monitors are useful for knowing when you are in the right zone for your training efforts.  If you understand what your maximum heart rate is, you can set up your monitor to beep at you when you exceed the high or low range of your heart rate for the type of workout you are doing.

Cross training gives your body a chance to recover while still exercising.  If yesterday has a hard run day up and down hills, then today's bicycle ride gives your aching knees a well deserved break.
