The North Face Chugach 18 Board Backpack - 1100 cu in

The North Face Chugach 18 Board Backpack is perfect for carting your plank on resort and short off-piste adventures, and will hold your other gear as well. Designed with a thin profile for balance and lift friendliness, the Chugach holds your board securely with a flytrap attachment. A front shovel pocket and dual gear loops keep your rescue equipment close at hand. The Chugach is hydration compatible and has a fleece lined optics pocket to keep your goggles from getting scratched. Best of all, the Chugach is made from heavy duty nylon so it'll be intact even if you decide hurling it down the slope is better than wearing it.

it's a smaller board pack, not great
I take this pack when I suspect I might have to carry my board, but hope not to. If I know I won't pack my board, I take the Camelback Mule. If I know I will have to carry my board, I take my DAKINE Frontier. I would have preferred the DAKINE Guide or HeliPro2, or BCA Stash, but this will do. It's not great, but it does work. Cons: * I don't like the back strap arrangement. * Heavy. * My BCA shovel does fit in, but always seems like it's in danger of falling out. * Probe and shovel handle slots are inside. * Vertical snowboard carry has some wobble. Pros: * Full-featured: at least it has probe and shovel handle slots. Lotsa pockets. * Doesn't move around a lot * Small, but holds some layers and stuff. * Comes in a cool camo color I have seen.

In Area or Light BC
The TNF Chugach rides well with a low profile. The forward push while riding lifts is minimal. With only 1100cu in capacity it is well suited for packing the essentials in area. Ride time is extended by use of the included hydration pocket. There is enough room for required gear when venturing BC for day trips, passing through the area gates or close road access for the goods. Built with the quality one expects from TNF this is a fine pack for skier or boarder.

Training Tips

Heart monitors are useful for knowing when you are in the right zone for your training efforts.  If you understand what your maximum heart rate is, you can set up your monitor to beep at you when you exceed the high or low range of your heart rate for the type of workout you are doing.

Cross training gives your body a chance to recover while still exercising.  If yesterday has a hard run day up and down hills, then today's bicycle ride gives your aching knees a well deserved break.

Anaeroic threshold is when lactic acid starts to build up in your body as your muscles are not getting the oxygen they require.  This threshold is typically expressed as a percentage of your VO2 max - the amount of oxygen per kilogram of weight that a person can use in converting fuel to energy. Elite athletes threshold might be as high as 90% of VO2 max.

Efficient running position allows you to run farther and faster.  Keep the heel raise to a minimum, relax your upper body and hands, keep your upper body poised and quiet.
