A tough call
This pack is a strange mixture of great advances and some lame designs. First the bad news: while the adaptability and adjustability of the pack's size with removable pouches is nice, the system of actually holding those pouches on leaves much to be desired. The little plastic tabs that insert into daisy chain like connection points often come undone. While flying with the pack, those side pouches always begin to fall off during rides on the luggage handling belts. Plus, the cheesy way the top pouch is held on to the pack is frustrating. However, the mesh bag day pack with bungees to secure gear is pricless... No removing your lumbar pads to mate with your top pouch. The day pack has its own shoulder straps and everything. By far the best thing going for the pack.

Forget about buying one large pack for long trips and a smaller pack for weekends. With Kelty’s Satori 4700, the removable pockets, lid and all-mesh daypack allow you to convert it from a standard-weight pack to a super light setup for short hikes. A built-in hydration sleeve holds your bladder, and a stable suspension system means the Satori can comfortably carry a heavy load.

Training Tips

Low weight, high rep circuit training combines the best of both worlds: aerobic and anaerobic training.  Keeping the rest time in between high repeats low excercises like bench press, leg presses, inclined sit-ups, and upright rows is the key to maximum benefits.

As a long distance runner, a gradual increase in distance each week will allow you to build a solid areobic base.  Distance increase should be no more than 10% of the previous week's distance.



When buying a new pair of running shoes, bring your old ones with you.  You will get a better fit if you know if you supinate or pronate.

Heart monitors are useful for knowing when you are in the right zone for your training efforts.  If you understand what your maximum heart rate is, you can set up your monitor to beep at you when you exceed the high or low range of your heart rate for the type of workout you are doing.
